ai-andalus-cajon-luthier-338809
Cajon Luthier

Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
An essential instrument in modern acoustic music, the cajon has established itself by its ability to replace a lightweight drum kit while remaining highly portable. This model adopts a more "luthier" approach to percussion: choice of birch plies for precision, work with noble veneers (maple and hickory root), and manufacturing details designed to optimize response and comfort. This cajon is oriented towards expressiveness and fine timbre adjustment, suited for musicians who want to sculpt their sound rather than settle for a fixed setting.

Who This Cajon Is For
This cajon is well suited for intermediate to advanced musicians looking for a percussion instrument that is lively, precise, and adaptable to various contexts. Thanks to the adjustable timbre and the quick response of birch, it excels in flamenco, acoustic pop, variety, Latin, and fusion, as well as accompanying guitar/voice where the balance between round bass and articulated slaps is essential. The rounded edges are a real plus for long playing sessions (rehearsals, live sets), reducing wrist and forearm fatigue.

Features and Innovations
The core of this model is its 6-string adjustable snare system, controlled by a mechanism inspired by guitar tuning machines. This type of adjustment allows you to switch from a tight and snappy timbre (drier slap, very present "snare drum" effect) to a looser setting (more woody grain, subtler string noise), or finely balance sensitivity between striking zones. The reinforced soundhole contributes to better bass sustain and a more pronounced "body" sensation, useful when you want a powerful kick without forcing your stroke.
The design also prioritizes ergonomics: rounded corners and edges for a gentler grip, and a box geometry designed to maintain a stable position whether you play seated in the studio, rehearsing, or on stage. Finally, the birch/veneer combination (maple on the outside, hickory root on the back) provides a strong visual identity while maintaining a reliable and homogeneous sound base.

Sound Characteristics
Birch is known for its quick response and precise character: it highlights a clear attack, good projection, and well-controlled bass. On a cajon, this translates into a defined "kick" and a slap that stands out clearly in an acoustic mix without being overshadowed by guitar or vocals. The different ply thicknesses (9 mm and 12 mm) enhance the feeling of solidity and can contribute to a more stable dynamic, especially when playing with nuance (ghost notes, accents, rolls).
The maple veneer exterior adds a touch of clarity and a controlled brightness to the attacks while preserving a musical tone. At the back, the American hickory root stands out for its unique aesthetics but also contributes to a sense of density and depth. Combined with the reinforced soundhole, this design helps achieve deeper bass and a more even low-frequency diffusion, useful both for bare-hand playing and with brushes/rods (depending on your technique and context).
Regarding the "snare," the 6 adjustable strings allow you to fine-tune the amount of grain and vibration: a tight setting yields a drier, more biting sound, ideal for modern patterns and sharp accents; a looser setting produces a more organic, woodier tone, perfect for intimate accompaniments. This cajon is therefore an excellent choice if you want a percussion instrument capable of shifting from a very articulated register to a rounder one simply by adjusting the snare tension.

Technical specifications

<colgroup><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"></colgroup>

Body

birch plies 9 mm and 12 mm with maple veneer exterior and marquetry

Height

48 cm

Back veneer

American hickory root

Width

29.5 cm

Tapa

birch plate + American hickory root veneer

Depth

31 cm

Snare system

6 adjustable strings operated by guitar tuning keys

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0984/0872/6803/files/8b1743b7f9eeb6c4f4a5ce5d4bf795f7b3c70ae9_ADL_LUT.jpg?v=1792537539
