The concept is clear: combine a portable reference monitor and a recorder in a compact form factor, with modern connectivity and smoother transfer via USB-C. The result: fewer steps between shooting and post-production, and greater confidence in exposure, focus, and color rendering.

Who It's For and How This Video Assist Makes a Difference

The Blackmagic Video Assist 7-inch 12G HDR is aimed at directors of photography, DITs, camera operators, documentarians, and creators who demand usable HDR monitoring in real-world conditions (outdoors, high-contrast sets) and a backup or primary recording directly onto accessible media. It quickly becomes central for: securing a take via external recording, verifying color consistency (REC 709, REC 2020, P3), speeding up dailies, and maintaining constant control when the camera screen is too small or insufficiently bright.

Technical specifications

<colgroup><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"></colgroup>

Category

video recorder monitor

Number of microphone inputs

2

Max resolution

2160p60

Power supply

External power supply

Storage

SD / SDHC / SDXC card

Display

7 "color touch screen

Inputs

2 x XLR, SDI, HDMI

Weight

825 g

Outputs

Headset, SDI, HDMI

Dimensions (mm)

193 x 130 x 37

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0984/0872/6803/files/3212069d639945f131576adb99098f34b9bd2362_IBM_VIDEOASSIST7_12G.png?v=1789329778
