Its history begins around the mid-19th century in the United States, before experiencing a major rise during the Great Depression of the 1930s. This "roots" and handcrafted culture continues to inspire guitarists and singers of both past and present, and it is precisely this spirit that is found in the Coup de pouce cigar box guitar method, designed to effectively guide you in your learning.

Throughout the pages, you learn to handle your instrument and build solid foundations: correctly tuning your cigar box guitar, choosing suitable strings, understanding and reading tablature, adopting proper playing posture, and selecting your bottleneck. The method then emphasizes the essential technical vocabulary for the instrument's characteristic sound, particularly slide playing : placement, precision, vibrato, fretted notes, expressive transitions (hammer-ons and pull-offs), melodic slide playing, and variations such as the Tilt slide. To develop true autonomy, you also work on picking, rhythmic setup (including 3/4 time), and accompaniment.

Finally, the book offers eight songs with tablature, designed as musical steps to consolidate your skills and enrich your repertoire: House of the Rising Sun, Robert Johnson Blues, Seasick Country Blues, Will the Circle Be Unbroken, Harper Box, Bluesy Chords, and St Louis Blues.
