fuzeau-octoblock-63109
Octoblock

An Awakening Instrument Between Percussion and Melody

Halfway between percussion and melodic instrument, this octoblock offers a playful and very accessible experience: the sound is produced by the contact of the mallet with the wooden bars. Whereas some percussion instruments focus solely on rhythm, this format naturally emphasizes the pitch of the notes and the sound color. It thus easily integrates into a musical awakening approach, complementing instruments like small metallophones or xylophones, while providing a different and very intuitive gesture.

For Whom and For What Uses?

This instrument is particularly suited for musical awakening and practice: at home, in daycare, at school, in leisure centers, or in music therapy workshops. Its quick handling allows children to participate without technical prerequisites, while opening the door to structured activities: listening games, imitation, musical question-and-answer, discovery of contrasts (forte and piano), or early melodic landmarks.

It is also very suitable for teachers and facilitators seeking an expressive sound support, easy to pass around in a group, and capable of producing a rewarding musical result from the first attempts.

Varied Sounds Through Simple Gestures

The octoblock stands out by the way it produces sound: the mallet moves against each wooden bar, creating a sound that is both melodious and evolving. Depending on how you play, you can shift from a more "sustained" sound to clearer notes, which encourages exploration and expression.

"Rotation" Mode: A Continuous and Captivating Sound

By spinning the mallet inside the instrument, you get a succession of notes triggered as it contacts the bars. This is an excellent starting point for working on listening and attention: the child clearly hears the variations, learns to control their gesture, and to adjust their speed to influence the sound output.

"Strike" Mode: Articulation, Rhythm, and Precision

By striking the bars with the mallet, you obtain sharper attacks, perfect for approaching rhythm, pulse, and coordination. It then becomes possible to play the notes one by one, like on a small xylophone, and to build short melodic patterns. This alternation between rotation and striking enriches the play and allows for varied activities throughout sessions.

Technical specifications

<colgroup><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"></colgroup>

Diameter

10 cm

Mallet

included

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0984/0872/6803/files/ac4aaff4669d9139ffe8eea2679e9340318a2629_OCTOBLOCK_5333.jpg?v=1793372922
