Its last movement, featuring a quotation from a lied, popularized the nickname \"Regenlied\" (\"Rain Song\"), anchoring the work in an intimate poetry typical of Brahms in his maturity.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe summer of 1886 then marked an exceptional creative surge: Brahms composed almost simultaneously the Sonatas op. 100 (A major) and op. 108 (D minor). Contrasting and complementary, they offer the violin-piano duo a complete expressive palette, from the most lyrical cantilena to more dramatic and virtuosic passages.
