mapex-comet-jazz-18-indigo-blue-392398
Comet Jazz 18" Indigo Blue

Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

The Comet series by Mapex was designed as a reliable entry point into the world of acoustic drums, with kits covering various sizes, from junior formats to more rock-oriented sets. It positions itself as an accessible range, yet carefully detailed in essential aspects, notably thanks to the SONIClear bearing edges that facilitate tuning and optimize head vibration.

Who This Drum Set Is For

This Mapex Comet is primarily aimed at beginners and intermediate drummers who want a complete, coherent, and easy-to-set-up kit. Its 18-inch bass drum offers an excellent balance between punch and control, making it suitable for styles such as pop, light rock, funk, indie, and music school learning. It is particularly well suited for small spaces and situations where easier volume management is desired.

Features and Innovations

The SONIClear bearing edges improve the shell-to-head contact, helping to achieve a stable and musical tuning quickly, even for beginners. The set comes with a new series of robust and uniform hardware, as well as two TH6215 ball-joint tom arms for precise tom placement and intuitive adjustment. The whole package aims for quick setup and reassuring ergonomics to support progress.

Sound Characteristics

Poplar is a wood known for its balanced response: it provides a rather warm tone, with a clear attack and present mids, which helps to clearly define strokes in a learning context. Projection remains controlled, with moderate sustain, ideal for working on dynamics without being overwhelmed by overtones.

Thanks to the SONIClear bearing edges, the shells breathe better and deliver a more consistent pitch, especially on the toms. The brass cymbals (hi-hat and crash) offer a clear and direct sound, perfect for beginners and laying down a solid groove in a band mix.

Technical
