meinl-bongos-abs-6-5-7-5-forest-green-379051
PERCUSSION JOURNEY SERIES HB50 BONGO FOREST GREEN

Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

Bongos are at the heart of Afro-Cuban percussion: two small shells played with the fingers, capable of shifting from a nervous whisper to very present slaps. With this pair of Journey bongos, the idea is clear: to offer an instrument in a traditional format but with contemporary material choices to gain reliability. The ABS body targets stress-free use (temperature variations, humidity, transport), while the natural heads retain the essential character and feel for Latin playing.

Who This Drum/Instrument Is For

These Journey bongos are aimed at beginners who want an easy-to-use and immediately inspiring instrument, as well as intermediate percussionists looking for a reliable set for rehearsals and concerts. Their 6" 1/2 & 7" 1/2 size is particularly suited to salsa, son, Latin jazz, Afro styles, but also to pop and acoustic contexts where one wants to add a precise rhythmic layer without overwhelming the sound spectrum. Played sitting, standing, in a percussion circle, or as a complement to a drum kit, they easily find their place.

Features and Innovations

The choice of ABS for the shells responds to a practical need: to maintain a stable instrument on a daily basis. Where some shells may react strongly to environmental changes, ABS offers a consistent structure, convenient for back-to-back sessions without worrying about the shell's condition. The rounded hoops provide appreciated comfort: they soften the contact with the hands and contribute to a smoother feel during rolls, taps, and slaps. The powder-coated black hardware enhances the overall durability while giving a refined aesthetic consistent with the Forest Green finish.

Sound

On bongos, the sonic personality arises from the balance between the shell and the head. The ABS shells promote a direct and clear response: the attack remains sharp, with a strong projection, useful for highlighting rhythmic figures in a mix or within a percussion ensemble. This "clean" base emphasizes the precision of right-hand/left-hand playing, especially on fast rhythms and ghost notes.

The selected buffalo heads add the lively dimension of natural skin: more texture under the fingers, a wide palette of nuances between open tones, center hits, and slaps. The result is both expressive and percussive, with a pleasant grain that reinforces the Latin character. The rounded hoops contribute to comfort and can help control attacks by limiting the sensation of edges under the hand during accented passages.

Technical specifications

<colgroup><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"></colgroup>

Category

bongo

Color

Green

Type

bongos

Finishing

Glossy

Material

plastic

Hardware

Black

Skin type

Buffalo

<colgroup><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"></colgroup>

Instrument

bongos (pair)

Hoops

rounded

Sizes

6" 1/2 & 7" 1/2

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0984/0872/6803/files/bc5f86d06ea6ddbaecf375b2bc93faf170def767_HB50FG.jpg?v=1792551956
