meinl-tbr06absr-rouge-76069
TBR06ABSR - RED

Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

An essential instrument in samba drum kits, the tamborim has established itself over time as one of the most incisive voices in the "batuque": a small drum with a huge presence in the groove. Its role is often to play fast and syncopated figures, with patterns that bring energy, tension, and drive, especially in rodas and parades.

In spirit, this 6-inch tamborim positions itself as a reliable and performance-oriented model: a standard size for traditional playing, a modern ABS construction for durability, and practical features (tuning, replaceable head) to support both intensive rehearsals and outdoor performances.

Who This Tamborim Is For

This tamborim is perfect for beginners who want a robust and user-friendly instrument while remaining responsive enough to work on technique. It is also suitable for intermediate musicians playing in groups (batucada, escola de samba, percussion bands) who need clear and consistent projection.

Style-wise, it excels in samba (pagode, samba-enredo), batucada, and modern percussion ensembles. Its bright and punchy character also works very well for fusion arrangements (samba-rock, funk, urban music) whenever precise attack and clear rhythmic reading are desired.

Features and Innovations

The tamborim is generally played with a plastic stick, while the other hand manipulates the head to change tension, color the timbre, and create pitch variations. This hand-head interaction is at the heart of the tamborim's expressiveness: you can go from a very open snap to more "closed" and nervous notes, maintaining excellent articulation in fast passages.

The Floatune tuning system offers a practical and precise tuning approach: you adjust the tension to tailor the response (tighter for a drier attack and quicker feel, looser for more roundness and comfort). For the musician, this is a real daily advantage: tuning becomes simpler, more repeatable, and the instrument maintains a consistent response even under intensive playing conditions.

Sound

The choice of a ABS shell directly influences the sound character: you get a bright tamborim with an immediate attack and very effective projection. ABS promotes clear reading of accents and ghost notes, which is essential when the tamborim interacts with surdos, repiniques, and caixas in a dense ensemble.

The synthetic head contributes to this sense of power and stability. It offers a consistent response, controlled snap, and good durability. The fact that it is replaceable is important for musicians who alternate between rehearsals and performances: you keep your instrument long-term while quickly regaining the original "snap" when the head wears out.

By adjusting tension through tuning, you can refine the balance between dry percussion and controlled resonance. When tight, the tamborim becomes very incisive and precise for fast phrases. Slightly looser, it gains flexibility and can be more comfortable for certain hand techniques that modulate pitch.

Technical specifications

<colgroup><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"></colgroup>

Type

tambourine

Color

Red

Material

plastic

Finishing

Varnished

Skin type

Synthetic

Diameter

6 "

<colgroup><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"></colgroup>

Shell

ABS

Replacement

replaceable head

Tuning system

Floatune

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0984/0872/6803/files/1aa791e62fcaf3216b2942e2816b9245c9c7ed63_TAMBORIM_MEINL_METAL_TBR06ABSR.jpg?v=1792566458
