roland-cy-18dr-digital-ride-18-228427
CY-18dr - Digital Ride 18"

Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

With the CY-18DR, Roland takes the "electronic cymbal played like a real one" approach even further by focusing on high-resolution digital design. It belongs to the generation of Roland digital pads designed to offer superior detail capture of playing nuances and clearly targets drummers seeking an expressive, precise, and ergonomic ride cymbal at the heart of a high-end setup.

Target Audience for This Drum/Instrument

The Roland CY-18DR is aimed at intermediate to expert drummers who want to find on an electronic drum kit the reflexes and subtleties of an acoustic ride: fine articulation, dynamic control, sustain management, and nuanced playing techniques. It is particularly suitable for styles where the ride cymbal structures the groove and colors (jazz, fusion, funk, pop, gospel, rock), but it is equally relevant in studio and home-studio settings whenever a precise and expressive sound is desired.

Features and Innovations

This cymbal incorporates Roland's latest digital triggering technology : a high-resolution capture combined with a multi-sensor system in the pad to track velocity and touch variations over a wide dynamic range. Playing is detected across all zones, from bow to bell, and the cymbal naturally supports musical techniques such as legato, pianissimo, and fortissimo. To fully exploit its potential, the CY-18DR connects via its digital output to a dedicated input on a compatible module, with optimal performance reported when paired with the TD-50 module.

Sound

On an electronic cymbal, the sound depends as much on the module as on the pad, and the CY-18DR stands out for its very detailed capture that makes playing intentions more readable. The result: stick hits gain precision, dynamic variations remain coherent, and transitions between zones (bow, edge, bell) feel more natural. The finger choke also enhances realism by allowing control over note endings like on an acoustic ride, with a more organic and musical decay.

Technical specifications

@media(max-width:632px){table[data-wb-spec]{display:grid;grid-template-columns:minmax(0,1fr)
