soundtoys-panman-397209
PanMan

What Soundtoys PanMan 5 Is For

Soundtoys PanMan 5 is an automatic panning effects plug-in designed to animate a track in the stereo field with rhythmic precision and great creative freedom. It is used both in music production (electro, pop, hip-hop, rock, film scoring) and sound design, to transform a static sound into a moving element that is wider, more alive, and better integrated into an arrangement.

Beyond simple left/right back-and-forth, PanMan 5 allows the creation of complex patterns, fast sweeps, synchronized pulses, or controlled random variations. On guitars, pads, synths, percussion, backing vocals, or effects, it brings a sense of depth and rhythm without necessarily adding reverb or delay.

Main Features

Tempo-synced auto-pan and custom patterns

PanMan 5 is designed to "lock" panning movements to your session's tempo. You can build sharp, repeatable movements, perfect for reinforcing a groove, creating stereo call/response, or energizing a loop. The creation of waveshapes and custom patterns allows moving from simple regular shifts to more original rhythmic signatures, close to a sequencer.

6 panning modes for immediate results

The plug-in offers six modes of panning suited for different uses: from a smooth LFO for continuous movements, to step modes for more "cut" effects, up to random variations to break rigidity and achieve organic motion. This palette makes PanMan 5 effective for both clean, discreet mixes and bold, audible effects.

Triggering and control via dynamics

PanMan 5 can react to the music: by setting a threshold, the track's dynamics become an animation driver. Depending on the signal, the speed, offset, or width of the panning can evolve, opening the door to very "performative" effects: a snare drum moving an overhead, a bass line triggering movement on a synth, or a vocal automatically widening on strong phrases.

Vintage spirit and hardware-inspired trigger divider

To recreate typical behaviors of classic panning boxes, PanMan 5 includes a trigger divider inspired by vintage hardware (such as PanScan). This approach allows clever rhythmic divisions and movements that "lock" to the tempo in a very musical way, ideal for retro textures, old-school rotation effects, or syncopated patterns.

Analog color: 7 character algorithms

Stereo movement is even more convincing when it retains a sense of texture. PanMan 5 adds a sonic dimension thanks to seven analog emulation algorithms. You can thus add slight thickening, subtle warmth, or stronger coloration without leaving the plug-in. Handy for adding depth to digital sources or making a panning effect more "mix-ready" and less clinical.

Technical specifications

<colgroup><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"></colgroup>

Type

Full software

Downloadable

Yes

<colgroup><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"><col style="width:25%"></colgroup>

Mac

OS X 10.12 or later

Windows

Windows 10 or later

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0984/0872/6803/files/da04e2b9db02541e998b640bb4da21ba9f77f67b_SOUNDTOYS_104328.jpg?v=1792561727
