yamaha-ym-5100a-2193
YM-5100A

Historical Context and Positioning Within the Range

Born from expertise developed alongside great musicians, this marimba continues the brand's "Grand Concert" lineage. Designed to meet professional demands, it combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technical choices, with a clear goal: to offer an instrument with a homogeneous touch, impeccable tuning, and immediately perceptible musicality, even in large venues.

Intended Users

This marimba is primarily aimed at advanced musicians, conservatories, music schools, and orchestral percussionists seeking a reliable, stable instrument that is easy to adjust daily. Thanks to its 5-octave range, it is perfectly suited for the contemporary classical repertoire, competition pieces, percussion ensemble work, as well as contexts where tuning precision and register balance are essential.

Features and Innovations

The highlight of this model lies in its height adjustment system incorporating a gas-compressed spring, designed for quick and secure handling. This design facilitates educational settings where the instrument passes from one user to another and must instantly adapt to different body types and playing heights. The detachable frame enhances versatility by simplifying transport, while maintaining a structure designed for stability and alignment of the keyboard and resonators.

Sound

Honduran rosewood is prized for its ability to produce a timbre that is both warm, dense, and singing. It highlights an expressive midrange, adds substance in the low register, and maintains beautiful clarity in the high register, with a natural sustain that favors long phrases and legato. This wood also offers a nuanced response: the instrument remains reactive to touch variations, aiding in the development of dynamics, articulation, and tonal color.

The resonators are designed to support projection and balance across the entire range: the Helmholtz acoustic treatment on part of the register enhances presence and roundness, while the rectangular resonators with rounded corners on the other part contribute to even diffusion. The result is a marimba with a rich and vibrant sound, with tuning engineered to remain precise in demanding playing contexts.

Technical
