Summary of This Method

This method is designed to develop a solid, musical, and controlled blues in all keys. The principle is simple and effective: you go through the 12 keys at a slow tempo, which gives you time to hear, anticipate, and build your phrases without feeling rushed. It's an excellent playground to improve your ear, your understanding of harmonic functions, and your confidence in improvisation.

Each key offers a different blues melody to avoid mechanical repetition and stimulate inspiration. You thus work on vocabulary (patterns, articulations, placements) while keeping a very concrete goal: to be able to play a credible blues, whatever the tune or key imposed in a jam session.

To go further, each key also includes two compatible chord and scale progressions. This allows you to approach improvisation in a structured way: identifying anchor points, securing target notes, and varying your colors (blues, pentatonic, more "jazz" approach) while remaining coherent with the harmony.

Practice tip: try to play some keys without reading as soon as possible. You will quickly notice that your ear takes over, harmonic memory sets in, and your solos gain fluidity. The whole is supported by a high-level rhythm section with James Williams on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass, and Mickey Roker on drums, for pleasant and very instructive accompaniment.
