Summary of This Method

Designed to support the student in a steady skill progression, this level 6 piano method emphasizes good playing habits and fluid reading based on interval comprehension. The content alternates technical learning, harmony concepts, and practical application within a varied repertoire to immediately connect theory to the keyboard.

The program includes a structured review of major and minor triads, followed by exploration of diminished and augmented triads, as well as the diminished seventh chord. The method also expands tonal vocabulary with the keys of F-sharp minor and C-sharp minor, the scales of E major and A-flat major, while strengthening rhythmic precision through thirty-second notes and dotted sixteenth notes. A dedicated pedaling style is proposed to develop a more controlled sound and a more expressive playing.

To structure home practice, the book includes a daily scale routine, ideal for establishing regularity, improving velocity, and stabilizing the hand in different key signatures. A dictionary of musical terms complements the whole, very useful for understanding dynamic, character, and articulation markings encountered in pieces.

The repertoire, designed to motivate and diversify styles, notably includes "Fur Elise" (Beethoven), "Menuet, French Suite No. 6" (Bach), "Solfeggio" (C. P. E. Bach), "Theme from Symphony No. 6" (Tchaikovsky), "Prelude in D Minor" (Clementi), as well as character pieces and jazz- and ragtime-inspired works such as "Blue Rondo," "A Classy Rag," and "Jazz Ostinato in C-Sharp Minor." Each principle is reinforced by additional page-by-page coordinated material throughout the level, for coherent and reassuring progression.
