An ABM Reference: Ashdown's "Made in UK" DNA Designed for the Road

On stages and in studios alike, the ABM series has established itself over the years as a standard for bassists seeking a reliable, powerful, and versatile head. The ABM EVO IV continues this legacy with a refined preamp, a strong visual identity thanks to its VU meters, and a focus on "true bass tone": solid lows, defined attack, and a presence that naturally sits in the mix.

Manufactured in the United Kingdom, this ABM head is built to withstand rehearsals, tours, and demanding gigs while remaining precise enough for studio takes where every dynamic detail counts.

For Which Bassists and Playing Contexts?

The Ashdown ABM EVO IV 750W is aimed at bassists who need a head capable of keeping up with an energetic drummer and filling a stage effortlessly. Its power and dynamic reserve make it an excellent foundation for rehearsal, live performance, and studio work, delivering clarity even when the band becomes dense.

It suits both passive and active basses thanks to a dedicated switch and adapts to many styles: rock, pop, funk, metal, reggae, soul... whenever you seek controlled lows, usable mids, and an attack that responds to your playing (fingers, pick, slap).

Total Control: Advanced EQ, Practical Routing, and Inspiring Effects

At the heart of the ABM EVO IV is a control section designed to shape your sound quickly without confusion. The EQ can switch from a 3-band to a 9-band EQ for more detailed shaping: ideal for taming resonant rooms, calming intrusive frequencies, or highlighting more aggressive mids to cut through the mix.

The Flat/Shape functions provide an instant character change, while the Mute and Pre/Post EQ settings on the DI output make the head very practical for live use (silence between bass changes, consistent front-of-house send, etc.). Finally, the built-in effects add real textures: a tube saturation (Valve Drive) for thickness and bite, Sub Harmonics to thicken the low end, and dynamic compression to stabilize levels and enhance the sense of "hold."

The Sound

Thanks to its hybrid technology and 12AX7 tube preamp, the ABM EVO IV delivers a sound that is both organic and precise: firm lows, well-defined attack, and dynamic response that follows your touch. In clean mode, it remains spacious and articulate, with lows that don't get muddy. Pushing the Valve Drive yields a warm saturation, thicker rather than harsh, perfect for adding presence without losing note foundation.

The 9-band EQ allows you to go from a round, full "vintage" sound to a sharper, more modern approach while retaining that ABM character: a muscular, reliable tone that works well with different cabinets and basses.
