Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

Part of the new Sonnet series, this amp was designed to meet a very current demand: amplifying an acoustic guitar (and voice) without altering its natural tone. The Sonnet 120 positions itself as a powerful yet portable format, designed to offer the most natural possible reproduction while integrating features that have become essential for modern musicians (D.I., USB, and wireless audio playback).

Who This Amp Is For

The Sonnet 120 targets the acoustic guitarist who wants faithful sound reproduction, from serious beginners to professionals. It is particularly relevant for songwriters, singer-songwriters, duos (guitar + voice, or guitar + second source), as well as instrumentalists playing in rehearsals, on small to medium stages, or at event performances. Its dual input (instrument + microphone with phantom power) also makes it very comfortable for a "one-man-band" setup: an electro-acoustic guitar on one channel, a vocal microphone on the other, with independent control of processing and level. Style-wise, it excels wherever dynamics and transients matter: acoustic pop, folk, fingerstyle, acoustic jazz, variety, worship, and vocal accompaniment.

Features and Innovations

The 2-channel architecture allows separate management of an instrument source and a microphone source, with independent settings to finely adjust EQ, level, and spatial effects. The microphone input features 48V phantom power, convenient for using a condenser microphone on stage or in recording without an external box. To handle challenging situations, each channel offers feedback suppression (essential with hollow-body guitars and close microphones), as well as a high-pass filter to clean up intrusive low frequencies (handling noise, stage resonances, mic proximity) and improve definition. A brightness control helps bring out attack and articulation, useful depending on pickups (piezo, internal mic) and mix density.

The built-in reverb aims for a "studio" aesthetic with several signatures (Hall, Studio, Chamber, Plate) to go from a subtle veil to a more spacious ambiance without adding a pedal. For users of external effects, an effects loop per channel allows insertion of delays, additional reverbs, equalizers, or multi-effects at the right point in the signal chain, preserving preamp clarity. Finally, performance-oriented connectivity simplifies life: D.I. XLR outputs to send a clean signal to the front of house (per channel and for the mix), and USB audio output to record, stream live, or produce content without extra interfaces. Bluetooth audio playback and MP3/Line in complete the package to work on songs, launch backing tracks, or amplify a duo with remarkable ease.

Sound Character

Designed to "not color" the sound, the Sonnet 120 emphasizes transparent and nuanced reproduction: the goal is to hear your instrument, not the amp. The combination of an 8" speaker and tweeter promotes an extended response, with more detailed highs (harmonics, finger attacks, vocal breath) and clear mids, essential for an acoustic guitar in a mix. The 120W power provides good headroom before saturation and preserves dynamics: arpeggios remain airy, percussive attacks keep their impact, and fingerpicking retains micro-variations. In clean mode, the sound is open and defined; with feedback suppression, high-pass filter, and brightness control, you can quickly find the balance point between warmth and presence, especially in reverberant rooms or on stages sensitive to body resonances.
