A "rhythm partner" designed to respect the dynamics of acoustic instruments
Unlike drum machines often oriented towards electronic music, the DR-01S was developed to integrate naturally with acoustic playing: subtle patterns, musical variations, and "woody" percussion sounds that support a guitar-vocal duo without taking over. True to BOSS/Roland expertise, it focuses on immediate efficiency: you quickly find the right groove, start the rhythm, and play.
Who is it for, which styles, and in what contexts?
The BOSS DR-01S is aimed at both beginners and experienced musicians who want to enrich their acoustic sessions without using a computer. It excels in folk, pop, chanson, blues, light reggae, world music, and any "unplugged" context where a credible and warm beat is sought. In rehearsals, it replaces a classic metronome with a more inspiring accompaniment; in live settings, its built-in speaker is ideal for small stages, and its Line output allows easy connection to an acoustic amplifier or PA system.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Boss DR-01S suitable for acoustic guitar and vocals?
Its shaker, cajon, congas, and tambourine sounds are designed to accompany acoustic playing without masking the string attack or the voice. The 3/4, 4/4, and 6/8 time signatures notably cover folk, pop, blues, and chanson repertoires.
Can this drum machine be connected to a PA system?
The LINE OUT output uses a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack and provides a nominal level of -10 dBu. It can be connected to an acoustic amplifier or a PA. A load impedance of 10 kΩ or higher is recommended.
What rhythms and percussion sounds are available?
Seven categories can be combined, including shaker, maracas, tambourine, congas, cajon, drum kit, sound effects, and metronome. The maximum polyphony is 24 voices, with an adjustable tempo from 40 to 300 quarter notes per minute.
How can the DR-01S be controlled by foot?
Two CTL 1 and 2 inputs on 6.35 mm TRS jacks allow connection of one or two optional footswitches. Functions such as Start/Stop, Tap Tempo, pattern variation change, tempo adjustment, or percussion triggering can be assigned. Up to 50 favorite rhythms can be stored for quick recall.
Does the DR-01S have a built-in speaker?
A 10 cm speaker with a nominal output power of 7 W ensures standalone sound for rehearsals and small venues.
