The Blackback Heritage: A Rock Voice from the 1970s
Since the beginnings of Rock & Roll, Celestion speakers have accompanied guitarists seeking a livelier, more dynamic, and more faithful sound to their playing. Over the decades, the British brand has established itself as an essential reference in guitar cabinets and amplifiers, thanks to models that have become inseparable from rock history.Introduced at NAMM 2026, the Celestion Heritage Blackback enriches the Heritage series with a decidedly vintage approach. Its name directly references the models produced in the 1970s, recognizable by their black magnet cover, then considered an evolution of the legendary Greenback G12M.
This speaker follows the spirit of the T1511, a model notably popularized by Paul Kossoff, guitarist of Free. It is aimed at musicians who want to rediscover an organic response, rich in nuances and deeply rooted in the aesthetic of great British rock amplifiers.
A 12-Inch Speaker Designed for Guitarists with Character
The Celestion Heritage Blackback is intended for guitarists who want to give their amp or cabinet a vintage personality without sacrificing a good power reserve. It is particularly suited to blues rock, classic rock, vintage hard rock, and expressive saturated tones where the mids fully contribute to the guitar's presence in the mix. With a sensitivity of 100 dB, this guitar amp speaker offers efficient projection and an immediate response to pick attack. Notes retain their definition, chords gain body, and riffs benefit from a midrange capable of cutting through a band without excessive harshness.
Its 16-ohm impedance allows integration into many compatible configurations, whether a 1x12 cabinet, a 2x12 enclosure, or a 4x12 cabinet. Before any installation, it remains essential to verify compatibility between the speaker impedance, cabinet wiring, and amplifier output.
A 55 Hz Response for Rich Mids and a Bright Attack
The Heritage Blackback features a design based on a ceramic magnet and a 55 Hz response. This configuration contributes to its sonic identity: present but controlled bass, quality mids, and brightness that adds air to clean tones as well as overdrives.Comfortable Power for Robust Setups
With a power rating of 100 W, this Celestion Blackback has a capacity suited to powerful amplifiers and cabinets intended for stage or studio use. It allows maintaining a comfortable headroom while preserving the dynamic character sought by guitarists who enjoy direct sensations.A Steel Frame for Reliable Installation
Its steel frame ensures a solid structure for durable installation in a guitar cabinet. The 12-inch format, widely used in the guitar amp world, makes it a natural choice to modernize an existing cabinet or design a speaker with a rock sound inspired by the 1970s.Technical specifications
