The Cloud 44-A is aimed at sound engineers, musicians, and creators who want the texture of a ribbon without struggling against the usual gain limitations. Its figure-8 polar pattern makes it a formidable tool for sculpting the environment: you can use the front and rear faces to capture a source naturally, while benefiting from the null side to reject a neighboring instrument, an annoying reflection, or room noise.

It excels on recordings where a dense but non-aggressive presence is sought: vocals (especially when taming sibilance), electric guitar, brass, strings, softer overheads, ambient mics, or controlled room capture. Thanks to the figure-8 pattern, it also integrates very well into stereo techniques such as Blumlein or Mid-Side for wide and realistic imaging.

Aim the null side toward the source you want to attenuate, play with distance to balance proximity and ambiance, and use the rear face (with its own response) to integrate the room in a controlled way.
