Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

A national and emblematic instrument of Brazil, the pandeiro accompanies Capoeira, samba, choro, and many other popular traditions. This "evolved tambourine" (generally between 20 and 30 cm) was introduced to Brazil via the Portuguese, who themselves were influenced by instruments from the Arab world, before becoming a true "pocket drum set" at the heart of Brazilian music.

This Contemporanea model is clearly positioned in the brand's high-end range: Formica frame with yellow finish, chrome-plated jingles, and prismatic nylon head. The whole is designed to meet the demands for tuning accuracy, projection, and precision expected in samba ensembles, especially in pagode where tension and articulation are crucial.

Who This Pandeiro Is For

This pandeiro is aimed at intermediate to advanced percussionists seeking a reliable, powerful, and precise instrument capable of holding its place in a group. It is also suitable for motivated beginners who want to start directly with a serious instrument, stable in tuning and pleasant to play.

In terms of styles, it is tailored for samba, pagode, choro, and Capoeira, but remains perfectly relevant in contemporary music, acoustic sets, or studio work whenever a Brazilian color with a clear attack and well-present jingles is desired.

Features and Innovations

The presence of a large number of double hooks (14) allows for increased tension without "hard spots" and achieves homogeneous tuning around the entire frame. This is a major advantage for fast and dynamic playing, where the head must remain firm, responsive, and stable.

The prismatic nylon head (often sought after for its visual appeal and response) provides a consistent feel and resistance suited to repeated strikes. Combined with the chrome-plated steel jingles, it facilitates clear reading of ghost notes, slaps, and accents, while maintaining the festive and bright character expected from a samba pandeiro.

Sound

With a nylon head, you generally get a sharp attack, good projection, and a more "straight" timbre compared to an animal skin. This quick response helps articulate pandeiro phrases (rolls, slaps, left hand/right hand) and maintain precision at high tempo, especially in pagode.

The steel jingles provide immediate brightness, a well-present jingle sustain, and definition that easily cuts through a percussion ensemble. The Formica frame, rigid and stable, contributes to a solid feel, effective projection, and good sonic consistency, particularly appreciated in group playing and live conditions.
