An Excel Mini DC Designed for Modern Playing, Without Losing the D'Angelico DNA
The Excel Mini DC Tour embodies the D'Angelico spirit: elegance inspired by archtops and meticulous craftsmanship, here reimagined in a compact format. The choice of a semi-hollow construction with center block places this model at the crossroads of worlds: easier to control than a hollowbody on stage, while maintaining the "semi-hollow" feel and a very musical sonic presence.
For Whom, and in Which Styles?
Thanks to its size and double cutaway, this guitar is particularly suited for intermediate to advanced guitarists who want a versatile semi-hollow, comfortable both sitting and standing. It excels in blues, rock, pop, soul, and modern jazz, with great ease transitioning from spacious rhythm playing to precise lead lines.
The Sound
The maple top, back, and sides provide a clear attack, excellent note definition, and a bright upper spectrum, typical of characterful semi-hollows. The center block enhances sustain and stabilizes the sound at high volume, limiting feedback. On the amplification side, the Supro Bolt Bucker pickups deliver a powerful and nuanced tone: the Alnico II at the neck favors round lows and singing mids, while the Alnico V at the bridge emphasizes attack, dynamics, and better presence in the mix. With the volume and tone controls and the 3-position selector switch, you can easily cover warm cleans to edgy crunch tones.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To stay as close as possible to the original feel, prioritize a D'Addario EXP110 string set (like-for-like replacement). Since the guitar is equipped with a standard mono jack output, a 6.35 mm mono instrument cable will work perfectly to connect it to an amp or interface. A gig bag is included, so you're ready to transport the instrument right out of the box.
