D16 Nepheton 2 is a virtual instrument dedicated to creating 808-style rhythms, ideal for modern production (hip-hop, trap, electro, techno, house, synthwave) as well as vintage aesthetics. It allows you to quickly program percussive patterns, trigger each element via keyboard or MIDI from your DAW, and go far beyond simple reproduction by finely adjusting the attack, sustain, and color of each sound. The result: massive kicks, cracking snares, punchy claps, and precise hats, ready to fit into a contemporary mix.

Main Features

A faithful, fully synthesized emulation

Nepheton 2 is based on 17 synthetic modules that work together to reproduce the behavior of an 808, without being limited to sample playback. This approach captures the micro-variations and the unique "grain" of the original machine, while adding extra settings. Each module has extensive controls to deeply sculpt the sound: adjust timbre, envelope, perceived dynamics, and spectral balance to achieve both a classic 808 or a more aggressive, contemporary version.

Advanced routing: 12 outputs for studio-style mixing

For an efficient mixing workflow, each module can be sent to the output of your choice thanks to very flexible output configuration. You can route each element to a separate auxiliary track in your DAW and process kick, snare, hats, or percussion independently with your favorite effects (compression, saturation, EQ, reverb, etc.). Each output can be set to mono or stereo, and Nepheton 2 also includes a configurable Trigger output, designed to capture the spirit of hardware setups.

MIDI control, automation, and Midi Learn

Nepheton 2 offers extensive MIDI control to adapt to all production methods. You can trigger modules individually as a modern alternative to the internal sequencer, and choose to play with the internal clock or synchronized with the host sequencer. Most parameters can be automated in your DAW and controlled via MidiCC from virtually any controller. The Midi Learn function simplifies assignment: you map a parameter in seconds without breaking your flow.

Internal sequencer: patterns, variations, fills, and creative generation

The internal sequencer includes two complementary banks: simple and extended patterns. You have 96 simple patterns and 16 extended patterns, editable via sequence steps or a "tap" input function. In host mode, simple patterns integrate smoothly into the DAW workflow: each pattern slot corresponds to a MIDI note, allowing you to "draw" notes to trigger complete patterns and quickly structure verses, choruses, and breaks.
Extended patterns add a real performance dimension: 4 segments (variations A and B, parts 1 and 2), a division between Basic Patterns and Intro/Fill In Patterns, and fill modes triggered automatically or manually. To break repetitive loops, the Randomizer can introduce small variations or generate new patterns, with control over frequency and repetition probabilities. Finally, the shuffle setting goes far beyond classic feels: you can create subtle swing, more aggressive offsets, or intentionally unbalance the rhythmic grid for a more "human" and unpredictable feel.

Mute, Solo, and CPU management

Each module features Mute, Solo controls, and an activity indicator. Mute does not cut already processed audio but prevents the module from being triggered, which is especially useful for testing arrangements. Solo disables triggering of other modules to focus on one or more sources. Nepheton 2 also offers a "disable/off" type mute and solo logic to optimize CPU usage when some modules are not needed.

Pattern sharing and exchange

External files are stored in XML format, facilitating the exchange of individual patterns or complete banks between users. Since XML is readable in a text editor, it becomes easy to archive, modify, or share a sequence as text while maintaining clear organization of your grooves.
