A Firebird Born in 1963, Reinvented for the Futura Series

The Firebird is among the most recognizable electric guitar shapes. Its bold design, introduced in the early 60s, made history with its automotive-inspired look and instantly identifiable personality. With the Futura Firebird Custom, Epiphone continues this legacy while bringing it into the present: spectacular finishes, performance-oriented components, and electronics designed to cover a wide range of situations, from live concerts to studio recording.

Positioned within the Futura Series, this "Custom" version emphasizes premium details (binding, ebony fingerboard, stainless steel frets, locking tuners) and a true "modern tool" approach: a Firebird with a strong look but, above all, ready to handle full sets, studio takes, and style changes without missing a beat.

For Which Guitarists and Styles?

The Epiphone Futura Firebird Custom is primarily aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking an expressive, stable, and versatile electric guitar with modern ergonomics. The Modern C neck and compound radius promote quick handling: clean chords at the lower frets, comfortable and precise bends higher up, without any "hard stops" under the fingers.

Style-wise, it naturally fits rock, hard rock, alternative, indie, and blues, while remaining very credible in pop and funk thanks to the coil split. Phase reversal adds more scooped and textured tones, ideal for standing out in the mix without raising volume or for a more "contained" grain in rhythm playing.

Sound: Modern Humbuckers, Wiring Options, and Sustain

This Firebird is built on an effective formula: mahogany body + set mahogany neck. Mahogany is known for its generous midrange, solid low end, and natural sustain that enhances held notes, thick riffs, and singing solos. The set neck enhances vibrational continuity: you get a full attack with nice density in the body of the sound.

The two Epiphone ProBucker Ignite pickups are designed to combine punch, articulation, and dynamic range. In the neck position, expect round and expressive tones, perfect for leads, rich arpeggios, and thick rhythms. In the bridge position, the tone becomes sharper with a clear attack useful for riffs, palm-muted parts, and solos that need to "cut through".

The electronics emphasize versatility: 2 volume and 2 tone controls allow fine balancing of the two pickups, and the push/pull functions open two major doors. The coil split delivers clearer and sharper timbres, handy for switching from an airy verse to a denser chorus without changing guitars. The phase switch adds finer, edgier colors, particularly interesting in the middle position for original textures in recording or accompaniment.

Finally, the LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece contribute to sustain and tuning stability, with stable intonation and a very reassuring "solidbody" feel, even when playing hard and long.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

This guitar comes with a gig bag, ideal for daily transport. To further secure your travels and rehearsals, a strap is a logical choice: the Posi-Lok system already helps keep the strap button secure without adding special hardware. For maintenance, a microfiber cloth is also recommended to preserve the finish's shine and keep the instrument spotless between sessions.
