The Masterfield Series: The FGN Archtop Spirit, Between Tradition and Modern Precision
With the Masterfield series, FGN offers a high-end approach to hollow body electric guitars: an instrument designed to deliver pristine tones and an organic response, while benefiting from meticulous craftsmanship. From wood selection to finishing products, assembly and adjustments are done by hand, resulting in a guitar that is both refined, stable, and inspiring.
Who Is It For, and Which Styles?
The FGN Masterfield MSA-FP is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking a responsive hollow body capable of expressing playing nuances. It excels in jazz, blues, soul, vintage rock, and pop whenever warmth, dynamics, and a full sound are desired. Thanks to the tap (push-pull), it also fits more aggressive contexts, with precise chords or very clear single-note lines.
Sound
Its hollow body construction highlights an airy attack and a beautiful acoustic dimension. The spruce top provides projection, liveliness, and a sensitive response to touch variations, while the flamed maple (back and sides) enhances clarity, bass sustain, and the "cutting" character of the mids. The ebony fingerboard contributes to precise articulation, ideal for enriched chord playing and fast phrases.
On the amplification side, the FGN MFH mini-humbucker delivers a warm, defined, and quiet range, very suitable for clean and slightly crunchy tones. The push-pull (tap) on the tone control adds brightness and bite when you need a more direct sound with a sharper attack. The Circle Fretting System (C.F.S.) complements the setup by promoting clearer articulation and a sense of precision across the entire fingerboard.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To maintain the original feel and balance, favor D'Addario ECG24 strings in .011-.050 gauge (or an equivalent set in .011-.050), particularly suited for warm tones and stability on a hollow body.
