Essential Information About the Gibson Hummingbird Original Guitar

  • Gibson Icon: the Hummingbird Original features the legendary vintage aesthetic while benefiting from modern, meticulous craftsmanship.

  • Immediate Playing Comfort: short scale length 24.75" / 628.65 mm and round neck profile for a smooth feel under the fingers.

  • Warm and Full Sound: combination of Sitka spruce top and mahogany body, with a hand-scalloped X bracing for projection and sustain.

  • Stage-Ready: LR Baggs VTC under-saddle system with volume and tone controls for a natural amplified sound.

An "Original" Hummingbird: Vintage Spirit, Modern Standards

Followed and admired for decades, the Hummingbird has established itself as a benchmark among Gibson acoustics. This Hummingbird Original version highlights the model's historic markers: Hummingbird pickguard, traditional truss rod cover, double antique binding, and a superb nitrocellulose finish that allows the wood to breathe. The package is completed with premium details such as Gotoh Keystone tuners and gold-plated hardware, available in Antique Natural or Heritage Cherry Sunburst.

For Which Guitarist and Styles?

Thanks to its short scale length and round neck, the Gibson Hummingbird Original is particularly suited for intermediate to expert guitarists seeking an expressive, comfortable, and inspiring acoustic. It excels in accompaniment (strumming), folk, pop, country, and singer-songwriter styles, while remaining very musical for fingerstyle playing. With the LR Baggs VTC electronics, it also becomes an excellent choice for stage and studio use.

Sound

The Sitka spruce top provides clarity, attack, and a wide dynamic range, ideal for transitioning from soft playing to strong strumming without losing definition. The mahogany back and sides enhance warmth, singing mids, and a rounded bass while maintaining good note clarity. The traditional hand-scalloped X bracing promotes top resonance, improves projection, and contributes to generous sustain. Finally, the bone nut and bone saddle contribute to precise intonation and efficient vibration transfer.
