The Gretsch Spirit of the 50s-60s, in an Electromatic Built for the Stage

Inspired by the great historic Gretsch archtops, the G5420T adopts the "single cut" Hollow Body aesthetic while offering a more modern response thanks to the Trestle Block bracing, designed to stiffen the body and increase precision. Within the Electromatic range, it represents a particularly credible entry point into the Gretsch universe: iconic look, meticulous finishes, and contemporary playing feel, without losing the immediate character that made the brand famous.

An Expressive Hollow Body: For Whom and Which Styles?

This Hollow Body electric guitar is primarily aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking a distinctive tonal personality for rockabilly, rock'n'roll, blues, jazz, and indie. Its comfortable handling, shorter scale length, and clarity also make it an excellent choice for a motivated beginner wanting quick access to a characteristic and inspiring sound.

The Sound

The hollow body made of laminated maple provides the openness, air, and definition typical of Hollow Bodies, while the Trestle Block enhances attack and stabilizes performance at high volumes, with surprisingly present sustain for this format. The FT-5E Filter'Tron pickups deliver tight lows, punchy mids, and sparkling highs: perfect for snappy rhythms, rich chords, and articulate leads. With the pickup volumes, master volume with treble bleed (which preserves brightness when lowering volume), and master tone, you can shift from incisive "twang" to warmer textures while maintaining excellent clarity.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To preserve the original balance, prefer nickel strings .011-.049 (factory-installed gauge). An electric guitar capo is perfectly suited to the 12" / 305 mm radius, and a microfiber cloth is ideal for maintaining the gloss finish as well as the plexiglass pickguard.
