Super Swede "The New Generation": the evolution of a revisited single cut

The Super Swede follows the lineage of iconic single cut models, with a clear focus on today's musician. Hagstrom retains the "classic" DNA (mahogany body, maple top, set-neck) while modernizing key points: headstock reinforcement via volute, locking tuners, and especially a Nape-Tenon neck/body joint designed to improve upper fret access without sacrificing vibration transfer. The result: a guitar that respects fundamentals but meets current stage and studio demands.

Who is the left-handed Super Swede best suited for, and in which styles does it excel?

Thanks to its 25.5" / 648 mm scale and characterful humbuckers, this Hagstrom primarily targets intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking a tighter and more defined single cut than shorter scale formats. It is particularly comfortable in rock, hard rock, modern metal, but also in muscular blues and pop/rock when utilizing the coil splits to brighten the spectrum. For a lefty wanting to cover many genres without multiplying guitars, it's a very versatile base.

Precise and expressive tone: wood, scale, and electronics serving the grain

The combination of a mahogany body and a carved maple top (with flamed maple veneer) provides a highly sought-after balance: mahogany delivers a warm foundation rich in mids, while maple enhances attack and clarity, with a tighter high end. The long 25.5" / 648 mm scale increases string tension: the response becomes snappier, bass control improves, and chords stay clear even with gain.

Regarding pickups, the Lundgren Design pairing is designed to cover a wide range. The neck No. 2 AlNiCo-2 favors roundness and clarity: perfect for singing leads, smooth rhythms, or more open sounds in split mode. The bridge No. 5 AlNiCo-5 pushes harder: sharper attack, solid lows, and an ideal bite for riffs and solos that need to cut through the mix. The electronics feature 2 volumes (with R/C circuit) and 2 tones with push-pull coil splits, plus a 3-position selector: allowing you to switch from a thick humbucker to airier textures without changing instruments.

Recommended compatible accessories

The guitar comes with a Hagstrom C-51 case and is factory-strung with D'Addario 10-46. If you want to maintain exactly the feel and balance intended by the manufacturer, a set of 10-46 strings is the safest choice.
