Thanks to its dreadnought size and balanced sound, the Ibanez AW54 is well suited for serious beginners as well as intermediate guitarists looking for an effective acoustic to work on rhythm and timing. It performs particularly well in folk, pop, chanson, acoustic rock, and fingerpicking when played with nuance.
Sound Characteristics
The okoumé (top, back, and sides) provides a woody and warm tone: when played softly or fingerpicked, the guitar remains round and expressive, while with a pick it gains in projection with punchy upper mids and a clear attack. The combination of laurel fingerboard and bridge promotes a "natural" feel, with even response and good chord clarity. Finally, the 3-piece nyatoh/maple neck contributes a solid foundation in the low-midrange, useful for supporting rhythm playing.
