What iZotope Nectar 4 Standard Is For
iZotope Nectar 4 Standard is a vocal processing plug-in designed to record, correct, shape, and mix lead vocals, backing vocals, spoken voice, and harmonies in all styles (pop, rap, rock, electro, podcast, voice-over). Its "channel strip" approach allows you to quickly stack essential processing (pitch correction, equalization, compression, de-essing, ambience, and creative effects) while maintaining a smooth workflow suitable for both home studios and advanced DAW sessions.
Whether you are aiming for a present and modern vocal, a more natural and intimate sound, or more pronounced effects, Nectar 4 Standard helps you achieve a clean and intelligible result with precise control over dynamics, timbre, and space.
Main Features
Vocal Assistant and Immediate Start
The Vocal Assistant analyzes your source and automatically suggests a suitable effects chain. It's an excellent starting point to save time during mixing, especially when processing multiple takes or quickly harmonizing several voices. You start with a coherent setting, then refine according to artistic intent (more impact, more softness, more air, etc.).
Level and Dynamics Management Without Compromise
The Auto Level module targets a more consistent volume while preserving the character of the performance. It makes it easier to bring a vocal forward in the mix without having to multiply automations and contributes to more even dynamics, useful for both lead vocals and backing vocals. The Compressor complements this approach by shaping attack, sustain, and density according to style and diction.
Intelligent Spectrum Cleaning and Sibilance Control
The Dynamic EQ detects resonances and acts in real time to reduce them selectively. The result: a more readable, less aggressive voice with better-controlled midrange, particularly useful on takes recorded in imperfect environments. The EQ then allows you to shape the timbre (presence, air, warmth), while the De-Esser controls sibilance and overly sharp consonants without muffling clarity.
Depth, Space, and Creative Effects
The Reverb and Delay sections offer precise control over depth and reverb time to place the voice in its space: close and intimate, wide and immersive, or more "live." Combined with Saturation, they add body, thickness, and a more present grain, useful for cutting through a dense arrangement.
Built-in Pitch Correction and Musical Adjustments
Nectar 4 Standard includes a pitch correction algorithm designed for subtle intonation adjustments as well as more creative effects. You can stabilize a performance, tighten notes, or embrace a more pronounced effect depending on the genre, all with quick control directly within the vocal chain.
Inter-Track Communication and iZotope Ecosystem Compatibility
The plug-in can communicate with other iZotope plug-ins to assist with frequency analysis and masking reduction in the mix. This approach is ideal for clarifying vocal articulation against competing instruments (guitars, synths, keyboards) and achieving a cleaner balance without over-equalization.
