Requirements According to License Type

This version is an upgrade (UPG). It is intended for users who already own an eligible license to upgrade to iZotope Trash. The upgrade applies from iZotope Trash / Trash 2 as well as from all versions of the Music Production Suite and Everything Bundle bundles. Please ensure you have proof of ownership/activation of the corresponding source product during installation and authorization.

What iZotope Trash Is For

iZotope Trash is a multiband distortion plug-in designed to shape timbre, thicken a track, and push the boundaries of sound design. It is used both in electronic production to create aggressive basses, sharp leads, and industrial textures, and in mixing to add controlled saturation on drums, guitar, vocals, or instrument buses.

Thanks to band processing, you can, for example, dirty only the mids to make an element stand out in the mix, keep clean lows for power, and excite the highs to gain presence. Trash is suitable for both audible and creative effects and more subtle enhancements when the goal is to achieve more energy, character, and personality.

Main Features

Multiband Distortion up to 3 Bands: Precision and Impact

Separate processing on up to 3 adjustable frequency bands allows you to treat the spectrum as a true playground. This approach is ideal to avoid global distortion from crushing transients or muddying the low end: you decide where the warmth should settle, where the grit should bite, and where the signal should remain clean.

Trash Module: Morphing and Exploration via XY Pad

The Trash module offers a creative distortion concept with an XY pad enabling a crossfade between 4 distortion algorithms. You can switch characters in real time, find "sweet spot" zones, and automate expressive transitions in your DAW. With a selection of over 60 distortion presets, you have an immediate starting point to work quickly, then refine according to the source.

Convolve Module: Character, Spaces, and Custom IRs

The Convolve module modifies acoustics and frequency response with over 300 room emulations. It is a powerful tool to transform a "clean" source into organic, metallic, lo-fi, massive material, or conversely to add a dimension of space and controlled resonance. A custom IR loader is also provided to load user audio files, enabling the creation of unique signatures from your own recordings (noises, impacts, field recordings, textures).

Swap: Switch Module Order Per Band

The Swap function allows you to switch the order of the Trash and Convolve modules per band. This detail changes everything: distorting then convolving does not sound the same as convolving then distorting. You can decide whether to dirty a virtual "room" or pass distortion through an acoustic imprint, achieving more coherent or more unsettling results depending on the artistic intent.

Scream Filter and Modulation: Movement and Synthetic Screams

The Scream Filter recreates an analog filter with auto-oscillation to generate scream effects, aggressive rises, and electrifying textures. The Envelope Follower then allows you to modulate the Trash module and the Scream filter based on the signal dynamics: perfect for making distortion "talk" to the rhythm of drums, animating a synth, or adding movement to a loop without overloading it.

Controlled Output: Automatic Gain and Limiter

Distortion processing can quickly increase levels. The output module integrates an intelligent automatic gain function and a limiter to maintain reliable monitoring, protect the bus, and facilitate A/B comparisons. You stay focused on the sonic character without being misled by a simple volume difference.

Randomize, Presets, and Interface: Immediate Inspiration

Trash is designed for fast creation. The Randomize function offers a random selection of presets and XY pad positions for the Trash and Convolve modules, ideal for discovering happy accidents, new textures, and sound design ideas. The interface provides quick access to all parameters and remains easy to use, even when stacking complex transformations. Additionally, the plug-in includes many presets for immediate startup.
