Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

The cajon has become a staple of modern acoustic percussion: born as a striking instrument with a deep timbre, it has established itself both as guitar-vocal accompaniment and in more rhythmically driven contexts where a clear alternation between bass and slaps is sought. The Alma Red Lacquered fits this philosophy with a "performance"-oriented approach: a responsive top, refined finish, and above all an externally adjustable snare system designed to quickly adapt to the room, microphone, or style.

Who This Drum/Cajon Is For

This cajon is aimed at serious beginners seeking a stable and evolving instrument, as well as intermediate percussionists looking for a cajon capable of covering multiple aesthetics without being limited to a single type of response. It is particularly comfortable in flamenco, acoustic pop, Latin, light funk, and world music, where slap precision and timbre control make a difference. In home studios or on stage, its external tuning also allows switching from a very "snare-like" sound to a drier tone in moments.

Features and Innovations

The highlight of the Alma Red Lacquered lies in its D.T.S. (Direct Tuning System): 4 parallel guitar strings positioned vertically inside the body. This choice promotes a snappy response with a clear timbre grain while maintaining bass roundness. Being tunable from the outside changes the daily experience: you adjust sensitivity and amount of "buzz" without disassembly, convenient to compensate for a resonant room, heavier playing, or different mic placement.

The chassis construction also contributes to playing comfort. The 7-ply MDF (12 mm) provides rigidity, ensuring solid bass and even projection. The water-based glue and silicone spikes enhance intensive use and stability, while the floor decoupling helps limit unwanted vibrations: an advantage when seeking cleaner low end and more defined slap, especially in dynamic playing.

Sound Character

The 100% Russian Birch top (3 mm) is a key element of the sonic character. Birch is appreciated for its sharp attack and direct projection: the slap comes out easily with clear articulation, helping to highlight ghost notes and finger nuances. This responsiveness also favors fast playing styles, typical of flamenco or rhythmic pop, where right and left hand alternate while maintaining definition.

The 7-ply MDF chassis (12 mm) provides stable lows and a "body" sensation. Result: solid bass with controlled sustain and a body that remains clear when pushed in volume. Add to this the cellulose protection and direct screen printing, and you get a striking surface that retains its response over time, even with frequent rehearsals. Finally, the D.T.S. string system allows adjusting the balance between warmth and timbre grain: tighter for a more present and snappy sound, looser for a drier and more discreet tone.
