Historical Context and Positioning Within the Range

The Zoco 2.0 Lacquered follows a "2.0" evolution logic: a cajon designed to offer a modern feel, accessible tuning, and refined finish. Its approach emphasizes playing efficiency (attack, dynamics, vibration control) and durability, with a construction suited for both stage and studio use.

Who This Cajon Is For

This cajon is particularly suitable for demanding beginners and intermediate musicians seeking a reliable, easy-to-tune instrument capable of covering multiple contexts. It fits very well with styles where the cajon replaces or complements a drum kit: acoustic pop, flamenco, Latin, unplugged reggae, variety, and voice-guitar accompaniment.

Thanks to its externally tunable string system, it will also interest musicians who alternate between a "dry" playing style (less sizzle) and a more "snare" style (more timbre presence), depending on the songs or room acoustics.

Features and Innovations

The design is based on a 12 mm MDF chassis, assembled with water-based glue, for a rigid and stable structure. The floor decoupling, combined with silicone spikes, limits vibration transmission to the floor and promotes a more consistent response, particularly useful on resonant stages or hard floors.

The 3 mm Russian birch striking surface features a direct screen print protected by a cellulose layer : this helps maintain a consistent feel while protecting the surface from repeated friction (nails, rings, hand techniques). The D.T.S. (Direct Tuning System) uses 4 parallel guitar strings positioned vertically to produce a precise and adjustable timbre effect, with a good balance between articulation and control.

Sound Characteristics

The birch top provides a sound signature appreciated in modern cajons: a clear attack, distinct projection, and well-defined highs, which help bring out slaps and ghost notes in a mix. Birch also favors a readable dynamic range, useful for transitioning from soft to more percussive playing without losing precision.

The MDF chassis contributes to a more controlled and often more homogeneous response in the low spectrum: the bass remains present with a stable "body" sensation, while unwanted harmonics are better contained. Floor decoupling and silicone supports contribute to this clean impression by reducing unwanted vibrations and stabilizing the sonic foundation.

The D.T.S. system with 4 strings allows adjustment of timbre amount and sensitivity. By tuning them, you can achieve a drier, more precise sound for accompaniment or, conversely, a more present timbre for grooves that need to evoke a snare drum. The vertical mounting favors a clear response in the playing area, with good separation between bass (center) and timbred slap (top of the top plate).
