Key Information About the Klark Teknik DN 100 V2 Active Direct Box

  • High Headroom : handles high input levels to preserve attack, dynamics, and clarity, even with powerful sources.
  • Transformer Isolation : isolated balanced output and design aimed at reducing hum and ground loop issues.
  • Intelligent Dual Input Impedance : suitable for both line level (XLR) and passive guitar/bass microphones (6.35mm Jack inputs).
  • Roadworthy : extruded aluminum chassis, rubber protections, and quality XLR connectors for intensive use.

A Popular Reference for Live and Studio Use in the DN Range

The DN 100 V2 continues the legacy of active direct boxes designed to meet the demands of modern mixing desks: ubiquitous +48 V phantom power on consoles, high headroom, and faithful reproduction of instrument character. It has become a recurring choice among engineers and musicians, aiming for a simple goal: to deliver a clean, stable, and detailed signal to the console without "smoothing" the playing or compressing transients.

Who Is the Klark Teknik DN 100 V2 For?

This direct box is designed for bassists (active or passive), electro-acoustic guitarists, keyboardists, electronic machines, as well as any source you want to send cleanly to a console mic input via a balanced output. In live settings, it facilitates quick stage changes (clear patching, controlled levels, limited hum). In the studio, it provides a reliable link to capture a DI take before reamping or processing, while maintaining excellent playing clarity.

Audio Design: Dynamics, Low Noise, and Robustness

Transformer-Isolated Balanced Output

The DN 100 V2 is based on a transformer-isolated balanced output, optimized to maintain consistent frequency response and phase coherence over varying cable lengths. The design also addresses transformer saturation prevention, with a fixed high-pass filter integrated to attenuate very low frequencies that are musically non-essential, while preserving precise reproduction of the instruments' low fundamentals.

Additionally, the architecture includes galvanic isolation designed to effectively separate input and output interfaces, which, combined with the Earth Lift switch, helps reduce ground loop problems when powering equipment from different power sources (stage, backline, FOH).

Dual Impedance Inputs: Automatic Adaptation Based on Connection

The DN 100 V2 offers a parallel XLR input and two 6.35mm TRS Jack inputs, one of which can serve as a link output to an amplifier (useful for keeping your amp sound on stage while sending a clean DI to front of house). The impedance behavior adapts according to usage: with XLR alone, the input targets line-level sources; as soon as a 6.35mm Jack is inserted, the impedance becomes very high to accommodate passive guitar and bass pickups, avoiding high-frequency loss and the sensation of a "muffled" signal.

Visible Switches: Pad and Earth Lift

On stage, there's no time to guess: the Pad and Earth Lift switches are illuminated, and an LED indicates the presence of +48 V phantom power. Result: immediate, easily readable control, useful in low-light conditions.

Built for Touring

The extruded aluminum enclosure protects the electronics, complemented by silicone rubber protection and insulating corners. This construction aims for daily reliability: quick setup and teardown, resistance to shocks, vibrations, and repeated transport stresses, while maintaining stable connections.
