The 44-02 follows the lineage of Lakland basses designed to offer premium versatility and uncompromising stage reliability. It features the LH3 pickups (hand-wound in the Chicago workshop) and the LH3 preamp found on the USA 44-94 series, powered by a simple 9V battery accessible via a convenient clip-on battery cover (no screws to lose). Internal switches allow adjustment of the mid boost/cut frequency to tailor the bass to your style and amplifier.

The Sound

The combination of an ash body (sharp attack, tight lows) and a flamed maple top delivers a clear response and strong presence in the upper spectrum. The MM-J configuration offers a modern, punchy character on the bridge pickup side, while the J-style neck pickup balances with more singing mids and precise definition. The active electronics (bass/mid/treble cut and boost) allow fine sculpting of the sound, and the 3-position coil tap on the bridge pickup extends versatility from tight, punchy tones to more open textures. The master volume with push/pull (tone bypass) is ideal for instantly switching from a shaped sound to a more direct base tone.
