A 4-String Lakland Between Luthiery Tradition and Modernity
The 44-OS carries the DNA of Lakland basses with a familiar silhouette, while adopting a slightly modified Offset design. The goal is clear: to maintain the playing comfort and stability of a "classic" bass, while bringing a more contemporary visual identity. The Honey Burst finish and all-black hardware reinforce this high-end positioning, both understated and assertive.
For Which Bassists and Styles?
Thanks to its pickup/preamp configuration and very comprehensive controls, the Lakland 44-OS is particularly aimed at intermediate to advanced bassists who want a versatile bass, capable of shifting from clean and precise playing to more biting attacks. It excels in modern funk/slap, rock with a pick, pop, and warm fingerstyle grooves, with enough tonal flexibility to adapt to many band contexts.
The Sound
The pair of Bartolini MK-1 soapbar pickups (dual-coil) delivers a sound that is full, clean, and well-defined, with a response that remains solid in the lows and clear in the highs. The Bartolini HR-5.4 AP 3-band preamp allows for very musical active EQ: you can cut or boost bass, mids, and treble, then fine-tune the character with the midrange frequency selector (3 positions). The blend-style pickup balance facilitates mixing attack, roundness, and presence. Finally, the volume control with push/pull offers the possibility to play in passive mode for more direct and organic tones.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To get the best out of its long scale length, a set of 4-string long scale bass strings 34" / 863 mm is recommended (gauge chosen according to playing feel: softer for slap, tighter for pick attack).
