A Légère Reed Engineered at the Heart of a Pioneering Approach Since 1998

Légère has established itself as a benchmark for synthetic reeds thanks to a decidedly scientific approach. The brand was born from the meeting of Guy Légère (chemist and clarinetist) and Mark Kortschot (composite materials specialist). Since 1998, their work has enabled the development of a synthetic reed capable of offering remarkable stability and consistency while aiming for musicality very close to cane.

The material used is based on a polymer designed to reconcile rigidity, density, and regularity. The goal is clear: to recreate the sensations of a traditional reed, with more consistent behavior against humidity and temperature variations. This philosophy explains why many clarinetists adopt it as a reliable solution, whether for daily practice or performance.

Who This Bb Clarinet Reed Is For

This reed is intended for clarinetists of beginner to advanced level who want to explore synthetic reeds without sacrificing a "classical" sound aesthetic. If you play in orchestra, wind ensemble, conservatory, or chamber music, its rounder and darker profile helps maintain a homogeneous section sound.

It is also suitable for musicians who alternate rehearsals and concerts and seek a consistent solution: the same response from day to day, fewer unpleasant surprises related to reeds soaking up water or changing behavior during a session. For variety bands, brass bands, or certain jazz approaches, this darker character can also be an asset if you prioritize density and stability over a very bright sound.

Tone, Response, and Playing Sensations

The strength of this model lies in its round and dark tone, combined with a thicker tip. This feature can contribute to a more "settled" emission, a less brilliant color, and a sense of substance in the sound, particularly appreciated for classical repertoire and ensemble playing.

In synthetic reeds, the advantage is also consistency : the reed does not absorb water, which helps maintain a stable response. The attack remains more predictable, endurance is better, and you gain comfort during long rehearsals. Finally, the absence of pre-conditioning allows immediate play without soaking rituals or adaptation phases during the first minutes.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To preserve performance and hygiene, a swab (suitable for Bb clarinet) and a cleaning product compatible with mouthpieces can complement your maintenance routine. If you already use a reed storage system, just make sure it accepts the Bb clarinet size.
