Summary of This Score

This pedagogical piano collection brings together, in a single volume, emblematic works spanning several eras to build a solid and motivating progression. The student encounters both the refinement of Baroque dances and preludes and the balance of the Classical style, before exploring more modern miniatures with a strong character.

The program notably opens with a Bach prelude (BWV 927) and offers the elegance of sonatinas by Clementi, Diabelli, and Kuhlau. The Classical dimension is reinforced by Mozart's "Sonata in C major KV 545," while the Romantic impulse is expressed with Schumann and "Le Gai laboureur." The collection is completed by highly evocative pieces where both sound and musical intention are developed.

The 20th century is particularly well represented with Debussy ("Le Petit nègre"), Bartók (Plaisantie and Rondo), Prokofiev (March op. 65), Hindemith (March), Kabalevski (Novelette, Slow Waltz), Khachaturian (Scherzo), and Lutos?awski. Each piece is conceived as a concrete objective: legato and staccato, clear articulation, sense of dance, balance of sound layers, more autonomous reading, and mastery of touch.

Each piece, from Grieg's waltz to Handel's courante, presents a measured technical challenge and a precise stylistic reference, making this an excellent resource for lessons, home practice, or audition preparation. Finally, note the deliberate omission of excerpts from the "Little Notebook of Anna Magdalena Bach," to encourage the full study of this fundamental work, which perfectly complements this collection.
