Summary of This Score

This work was written as part of the Obertöne project of the Bezirksblasmusikverband Linz-Land (Austria). It is dedicated to Anton Forstner, in gratitude for years of support for wind instrument music in the Linz-Land district. The musical concept is based on the world of the Shamadan: an ancient oriental dance, often associated with wedding celebrations, during which a dancer balances a candelabrum symbolizing spiritual light.

In this score, the euphonium plays the role of the dancer. The introduction is particularly striking: the soloist immediately expresses themselves in an unaccompanied recitative, offering a space of freedom to work on phrasing, projection, and tone color. The rest of the piece sets up an alternation between euphonium and piano, like a stage dialogue where intentions respond and transform.

The piano is not limited to simple harmonic support: it maintains an important role throughout the work, with various technical feats that enhance energy, tension, and contrast. The whole forms a demanding piece, designed for advanced performers seeking a work that is at once narrative, brilliant, and rewarding in concert, audition, or in a program focused on contemporary repertoire for euphonium.
