Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

The Tour Baby follows the line of modern amps designed for musicians who want to travel light without sacrificing a true amp "feel." Its approach is clear: a compact, robust head, easy to handle, yet comprehensive enough to cover the needs of today's guitarist (pedals, direct out, rack, studio). The result: a "workhorse" amp built to keep up with rehearsals, sessions, and gigs, while remaining easy to integrate into any rig.

Who This Amp Is For

The Tour Baby suits both the intermediate guitarist looking for a reliable and versatile head, and the experienced musician wanting an efficient, quick-to-set-up, and consistent rig from venue to venue. In the studio, the clean channel with integrated compression helps achieve clean, controlled takes, while the distorted channel covers everything from crunch to more pronounced lead tones. In rehearsals and on stage, its 100 W provide a comfortable volume reserve, with a dedicated boost to stand out in solos. Style-wise, it feels at home in pop, rock, indie, blues, funk, and broadly any genre where you want to alternate between clean rhythms, tight crunch, and articulate distortion.

Features and Innovations

The Tour Baby is built around a two-channel architecture: a Clean channel designed for clarity and dynamics, and a Dirty channel focused on grain, attack, and presence in the mix. The Clean channel offers simple, musical EQ (bass and treble) and integrates a VCA compressor: ideal for smoothing peaks, enhancing sustain, and stabilizing level without relying on an external pedal. This design also facilitates adaptation to both passive pickups and active pickups, maintaining a clean and controlled output.

The Dirty channel provides a 3-band EQ (bass, mid, treble) complemented by a presence control to adjust brightness and bite, allowing you to choose between tight crunch or thicker saturation depending on the cabinet, guitar, and style. A key feature for live use: a second volume control switchable via footswitch on the distorted channel, handy for switching from rhythm to lead level without touching gain or tonal balance settings.

To integrate into a modern pedalboard, the amp includes a buffered effects loop, designed to handle pedals well and preserve definition (especially with delays and reverbs placed after distortion). It also offers a direct output intended for use with cabinet simulation or external impulse responses, simplifying studio recording or sending to a PA system. Finally, its rackable design (rack-mountable) makes it a very relevant option for touring rigs or centralized setups.

The Sound

The Tour Baby is a head with a single-ended JFET preamp paired with a Class A/B solid-state power stage. Sonically, it delivers a very direct and responsive behavior: a clear attack, clean lows, and a volume reserve that holds well, particularly useful in a band setting. The Clean channel aims for a refined and bright sound, with excellent clarity for chords and arpeggios; the integrated compression allows choosing between a very open dynamic or a more "produced," homogeneous sound, ideal for funk, pop, and clean pick parts.

The Dirty channel is designed to sit easily in the mix: tight crunch for rhythms to more sustained lead tones, with full EQ and presence control that helps cut through without necessarily increasing volume. The switchable second volume is a real plus: you can keep distortion dialed in perfectly and simply "open up" for solos. With a good effects loop and upstream pedals, the Tour Baby becomes a solid foundation for a modern rig, capable of handling rehearsals, gigs, and sessions with remarkable consistency.
