What PSP StompFilter Is For
PSP StompFilter is a creative effect plug-in dedicated to modulated filtering and movement of an audio source. It is used both to create rhythmic variations on synths and pads and to add an auto-wah-style articulation on guitars, keyboards, or bass lines. In electronic, hip-hop, pop production, or sound design, it enables transitions, build-ups, textures, and filter "grooves" that breathe, while maintaining dynamic control via its compressor.
Main Features
Modulated Filtering: From Subtle to Radical
At the core of PSP StompFilter is a filter capable of smoothly shifting from one character to another, with low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass modes. You can move from gradual darkening to more focused band effects, perfect for carving out space in the mix or transforming a static source into living material. The filter behavior is designed to remain musical, whether you seek a simple "sweep" or a very pronounced effect.
LFO and Envelope Follower: Expressivity and Control
The plug-in offers an LFO to animate the filter and gain, as well as an envelope follower to trigger movements based on the input signal's intensity. A major strength is the ability to cross-modulate: the envelope can influence the LFO, opening the door to more organic and "played" effects, between automatic wah, creative pumping, and filters that react to a drum hit or accents in a bass line.
LFO Randomization: Inspiring Imperfections
By adding an adjustable amount of LFO randomization, PSP StompFilter introduces slight irregularities reminiscent of analog circuit behavior. The result: less mechanical, more natural modulations, and a sound that remains interesting over time, especially on repetitive patterns (arpeggios, hi-hats, sequences, drones).
Integrated Gain and Compressor: Sculpt the Movement
Beyond the filter, PSP StompFilter includes gain processing and a compressor to stabilize or emphasize variations created by modulation. This is particularly useful for maintaining a controlled level feel when the filter and envelope become very expressive, or conversely, to highlight the rhythmic impact of an auto-wah on a guitar, Rhodes, or drum track.

Questions frequently asked
Is PSP StompFilter compatible with Windows 11 and macOS Monterey?
Compatibility covers Windows 7 through Windows 11, as well as macOS 10.12 up to macOS 12.04 Monterey.
What filter modes are available?
Three modes are offered: low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass. Filtering can thus darken the signal, target a frequency band, or allow the highs to pass.
Can an auto-wah effect responsive to attack be created?
The envelope follower makes the filter movement react to the input signal's intensity. The envelope can also modulate the LFO. This cross-modulation allows obtaining responses linked to guitar, bass, or drum attacks.
Can the LFO produce less regular modulation?
An adjustable randomization of the LFO introduces modulation irregularities inspired by analog circuits, especially on arpeggios and repetitive sequences.
Is a compressor integrated into the modulated filter?
The processing includes a gain control and a compressor. These functions help stabilize the level or emphasize the impact of filter variations.
