An AIRA module designed as a bridge between vintage and modular
The SYSTEM-1m embodies the Roland AIRA spirit: a modern, performance-oriented instrument combining a full synthesis architecture with immediately usable semi-modular connectivity. Its distinctive feature, the PLUG-OUT function, allows you to access sound colors inspired by classic Roland synths while benefiting from a chassis designed to fit into a modular setup or stage rig.
Who is it for, and in what contexts?
The Roland SYSTEM-1m targets both experienced musicians and sound creators curious about stepping into semi-modular synthesis without getting lost in a complex system. In techno, electro, ambient, or synthwave, it excels at powerful basses, cutting leads, animated textures, and rhythmic sequences. In the studio, it serves as a main synth, sound design tool, or external processor; live, its direct control via knobs and sliders makes it very immediate.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Roland SYSTEM-1m compatible with a modular system?
Its semi-modular architecture features 15 patch points on mini-jack connectors, including CV IN, GATE IN, LFO OUT, EXT IN, and MIX OUT. Modulation, envelope, and oscillator signals can thus be routed to or from other compatible gear.
What polyphony does the SYSTEM-1m offer?
In SYSTEM-1m mode, the maximum polyphony is 4 voices.
Can an external audio source be processed with this synth?
The EXT IN input allows an external source to be injected into the circuit. The signal can be processed by the filter, amplifier, and the Crusher, Reverb, and Delay effects. An additional EXT IN patch point is also available on mini-jack.
What MIDI and audio connections are available?
Connectivity includes a USB type B port for audio and MIDI, as well as MIDI IN and OUT jacks. Audio outputs are provided as 6.35 mm jacks on the rear and a mini-jack on the front panel, along with a stereo mini-jack headphone output.
Does the PLUG-OUT mode of the Roland SYSTEM-1m allow changing synthesis types?
The PLUG-OUT function loads synths whose architectures depend on the PLUG-OUT software used. The 64 user memories are organized into 8 banks of 8 presets each.
