A Legendary Mouthpiece in SELMER Paris History

Founded at the end of the 19th century, Henri SELMER Paris has established itself as an essential reference for saxophone instruments and accessories. The brand began in 1885 with the manufacture of reeds and mouthpieces, building its expertise on a demand for consistency and musicality. Today, production benefits from modern tooling and digital machining in the Mantes-la-Ville workshops, ensuring precision of execution and production stability that are particularly appreciated in such a crucial component as the mouthpiece.

In this tradition, the SOLOIST revives the spirit of a historic model from the 1950s: an iconic mouthpiece sought after for its balance and versatility, capable of supporting a classical aesthetic while maintaining a true personality in jazz.

For Which Saxophonist and Styles?

The SELMER Paris SOLOIST mouthpiece is aimed at intermediate to advanced saxophonists who want to take a step forward in control, stability, and timbre refinement. It is also perfectly suited for experienced musicians seeking a "reference" mouthpiece with predictable behavior, easy to adjust, and consistent across all registers.

Regarding styles, its sonic signature makes it an excellent choice for classical music (straight, centered, homogeneous sound) as well as for jazz with controlled grain, along with variety and ensemble contexts where intonation, attack, and controlled projection are priorities.

Sound and Design

The SOLOIST stands out with a very centered sound, both warm and homogeneous, with a response that remains stable when playing from pianissimo to fortissimo. The horseshoe chamber contributes to this sense of focus and coherence by helping maintain a clear emission and a dense timbre without harshness.

With its G opening (2.05 mm) and a 24 mm table, it achieves an interesting balance between ease of emission and dynamic potential: the attack in the low register is particularly precise, while the high and altissimo registers maintain balanced intonation. The result is a mouthpiece that encourages expressive, flexible playing and clear musical phrasing.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

The mouthpiece comes with a mouthpiece patch. The ligature and mouthpiece cap are not included: to ensure perfect compatibility (dimensions, tightening, shape), it is recommended to choose a ligature and mouthpiece cap specifically adapted to the saxophone and this type of mouthpiece.
