SELME R: a return to roots with a new generation of reeds

Henri SELMER Paris reconnects with one of its historical origins: reed manufacturing, initiated as early as 1885. After references that have marked generations of musicians, the brand is relaunching a modern range, driven by the same dynamism as its recent developments on saxophones, clarinets, and mouthpieces. The goal is clear: to offer tenor saxophone reeds with the level of excellence associated with the SELMER name, with a contemporary approach to consistency and design.

For which tenor saxophonist?

These reeds are aimed at intermediate to professional saxophonists seeking a reliable response daily, both in rehearsal and on stage. Their balance and roundness make them particularly suitable for jazz, pop, chamber music, or wind orchestra, wherever a focused, centered sound and good homogeneity across registers are expected. With a strength of 3.5, they offer a rather firm feel, appreciated for sound stability and projection, especially on open mouthpieces or more projecting setups.

Sound and design

Made from carefully selected wild cane from Southern France, these reeds aim for controlled projection and consistent response. The Arundo Donax cane chosen for its high fiber content contributes to good longevity and appreciable resistance to environmental changes (heating, air conditioning, outdoor). The reed profile was developed with musicians to achieve a sound aesthetic marked by density, roundness, and natural warmth, while maintaining a stable response. The laser marking (strength and logo) is placed on the bark, not on the table: an approach designed to preserve the vibrational qualities of the most sensitive area.

Recommended compatible accessories

To get the best out of your reeds, consider a universal reed holder for saxophone (ventilated and secure storage) as well as appropriate maintenance products (swab and cloth) to limit residual moisture in the mouthpiece and neck. If you already use a case with compartments, keep the reeds protected from shocks and temperature fluctuations.
