Phonitor 3: The "Phonitor" Philosophy in a Complete Monitoring Controller
With the Phonitor 3, SPL combines in one device what is often missing at the listening station: a very high-level headphone amplifier and a true monitor controller, all powered by the brand's 120 V technology. The idea is simple: maintain a 100% analog chain, extremely detailed, capable of revealing the micro-balances of a mix, while offering essential functions to work quickly (source selection, headphone/speaker switching, Mute) and verify your choices as on a console.
Who is the SPL Phonitor 3 for, and in which uses does it make a difference?
The SPL Phonitor 3 is aimed at sound engineers, producers, and demanding creators who alternate between headphone listening and speaker listening in a modern studio setup. It is particularly relevant if you work at times when speaker monitoring is limited, if you often mix on headphones, or if you are looking for a reliable central point to control your listening without adding digital conversion.
In both mixing and mastering, its control functions (Mono, channel solo, phase inversion, left/right swap) speed up critical checks: vocal centering, low-end balance, stereo coherence, and quick detection of phase anomalies. The lateral control allows you to recenter the stereo image according to your perception, very useful during long headphone sessions.

Questions frequently asked
Does the SPL Phonitor 3 allow mixing on headphones as if on speakers?
The Phonitor Matrix applies crossfeed, speaker angle adjustment, and center level to bring headphone perception closer to that on monitors. These settings allow adjustment of space and stereo center positioning.
What headphone power does this SPL controller provide?
The headphone output delivers 2 x 5 W into 250 ohms at 1 kHz with 1% THD, and 2 x 1 W into 32 ohms. A rear DIP switch increases the level by 12 dB.
Is it possible to quickly switch between headphones and speakers?
The Output switch selects listening on headphones or speakers, while the center position activates Mute. The signal chain remains 100% analog.
What stereo control functions are available?
Mono/stereo, L/R solo, phase inversion on the left or right channel, and L/R swap are used for phase and panorama checks. The lateral control shifts the image left or right to correct center positioning during listening.
Is the SPL Phonitor 3 rackmountable and what are its dimensions?
This model is not rackmountable and measures 278 x 100 x 300 mm with a weight of 3.9 kg.
