The Essentials to Know About the Sterling AL40P-VC Albert Lee Signature P90 Vintage Cream Guitar

  • Albert Lee Signature Model revisited by Sterling: retro-modern look, elegant curves, and an accessible "custom" spirit.

  • Two Sterling P90 pickups: crisp attack, full mids, and great definition, from tight clean tones to vintage crunch.

  • Torrified maple neck: stable and responsive feel, ideal for precise and expressive playing.

  • 2-point Fulcrum vibrato: smooth tremolo for subtle vibratos and more pronounced accents.

An Iconic Design, Between Music Man Heritage and Sterling Interpretation

Inspired by the signature model made famous by British guitarist Albert Lee, the Sterling AL40P-VC retains the fundamentals that define this unique shape: an instantly recognizable design, ergonomics designed for modern playing, and a decidedly versatile approach. This "within everyone's reach" version preserves the model's DNA with efficient luthiery (poplar) and a P90 configuration that further enhances its vintage and expressive character.

For Which Guitarists and Styles?

The AL40P-VC is aimed at progressive beginners as well as intermediate players who want an electric guitar with strong personality, easy to handle, and capable of covering many genres. The P90s excel in rock, blues, indie, garage, and pop: sharp enough to cut through the mix while retaining a very "old school" organic warmth.

The Sound

The poplar body promotes overall balance: a clear attack, present mids, and a consistent response that works well clean or with saturation. The two Sterling P90s deliver that typical tone between single-coil and humbucker: thicker than a traditional single-coil pickup but with more air and bite than a humbucker. The passive electronics, paired with Volume and Tone controls, allow quick shifts from a snappy, open sound to rounder, softer textures, while the 5-position selector broadens the palette to chain rhythms, leads, and output level nuances.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To maintain the original feel and balance, use a set of Ernie Ball Regular Slinky strings (CEB 2221). As with any electric guitar, a standard 6.35 mm jack cable and plectrums of various thicknesses are simple and immediately useful additions depending on your attack.
