The marimba, dark, rich, and warm, suits both EDM arpeggios and leads as well as dramatic transitions in film music, accents in pop/rock, or repetitive patterns in hip-hop. The xylophone, drier, brighter, and more incisive, delivers immediate presence in the mix, ideal for ostinatos, counter-melodies, and hooks that need to stand out precisely.

Two essential instruments, a very wide musical palette

This EEKX brings together the two pillars of wooden melodic percussion: marimba and xylophone. Their complementarity is perfect for building a musical narrative: the marimba for depth, movement, and texture; the xylophone for attack, clarity, and definition. Whether you produce classical arrangements, modern pop, electronic textures, or soundtrack atmospheres, you have an immediately usable duo.

The instruments were recorded in the 330 m2 main hall of Galaxy Studios with a microphone setup designed to cover all uses. Close microphones capture attack, body, and rhythmic precision, while microphones placed around the instrument widen the image and enhance the "room" dimension, including configurations up to surround 5.0.

Two distinct ambiances for the marimba

To multiply colors without multiplying instruments, the marimba was also recorded in a second space: Studio 1. You can thus choose a closer, more intimate version for delicate passages or, conversely, a wider, monumental take for cinematic arrangements, dramatic builds, and electronic productions that require breadth.
