In classical music, they help to seek a more centered, dark, or homogeneous sound depending on the repertoire. The principle of the reeds is based on how the ligature transmits pressure to the reed/mouthpiece pair. Here, Vandoren offers three complementary characters: a metal reed for a more timbred and centered sound, a reed made of leather identical to the ligature for a very compact and dark output, and a reed made of softer leather to gain in roundness and amplitude. The choice of material directly influences the sensation of resistance, the ease of emission, and the density of the sound, without requiring a change of ligature.
