Revstar: Yamaha's Spirit Between Heritage and "Café Racer" Design
Initially launched in 2015, the Revstar series marks Yamaha's return to a line of electric guitars with strong character, inspired directly by the aesthetics and engineering of 1960s "café racer" motorcycles. The current generation is organized into three levels (Element, Standard, Professional handcrafted in Japan) and introduces a modern approach to resonance through chambered bodies designed via the Acoustic Design process. The RSS20L is among the first left-handed models in Revstar history, with no compromises on luthiery or sound options.
For Whom and Which Styles?
The Yamaha Revstar Standard Left-Handed RSS20L is aimed at advanced beginners to experienced guitarists seeking a reliable, expressive electric guitar ready for both stage and studio. Its ergonomics, balance (thanks to chambering), and sound palette make it very comfortable in rock, blues, indie, pop, and more saturated genres, while maintaining precision on clear and dynamic tones.
Sound
The combination of a chambered mahogany body and a maple top delivers present lows, rich mids, and a clearer attack, with a lively and resonant feel. The two Yamaha VP5 pickups (P90 type, Alnico V magnets) provide a sharp and articulate tone, ideal for biting rhythm parts and a responsive lead playing experience. The 5-position selector expands the "intermediate" textures, while the Focus Switch (push/pull) acts as a passive boost to thicken the signal and emulate a overwound pickup. The Tune-O-Matic and Stopbar combo, paired with the set neck, promotes generous sustain and a crisp attack.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To stay as close as possible to the original specifications, a set of D'Addario EXL110 10-46 strings is the safest choice. The guitar comes with a Deluxe Gigbag, so a simple spare set of strings and a microfiber cloth are sufficient for regular maintenance.
