When I saw the announcement drop, I read through the guest list three times to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating. Fifty musicians, basically half the Hellfest lineup spread over ten editions, all on the same Accept tribute album? Wolf Hoffmann and his crew could not have dreamed of a better celebration for their golden anniversary with metal. Here’s a look at “Teutonic Titans 1976-2026”, the most ambitious anniversary project of its kind.
Fifty Guests for Fifty Years of Career
The idea is simple, yet mind-boggling to execute: 50 guest musicians for 50 years of existence. Led by Wolf Hoffmann, the longtime architect of the Accept sound, the project brings together a true convention of global heavy metal. Set for release on September 4, 2026 via Napalm Records, preorders are open across several collector’s editions.
The concept is rock-solid: no song features the same lineup. Every track gets its own vocals/guitars/bass/drums combination, turning the listening experience into a treasure hunt. Mark Tornillo, the frontman since 2009, and Hoffmann’s riffs remain at the heart of the project.
Accept formed in Solingen, Germany, in 1976. With “Restless And Wild” (1982), “Balls To The Wall” (1983), and “Metal Heart” (1985), the band laid the foundations of teutonic metal and directly inspired the NWOBHM, speed metal, and power metal.
“Fast As A Shark,” “Balls To The Wall”: Heavy Metal’s Finest Join In
If you’re looking for chills, brace yourself. The speed metal classic “Fast As A Shark” (Restless And Wild, 1982) is handed to an explosive lineup: Phil Anselmo (Pantera) on vocals, Kirk Hammett (Metallica) on lead guitar, and Mikkey Dee (Scorpions, ex-Motörhead) behind the kit, with Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big) on bass. That lineup alone is worth the price of preorder.
The other clash of the titans is “Balls To The Wall”, the band’s unifying anthem. The golden voice of Rob Halford (Judas Priest) takes the reins, backed by Matthias Jabs (Scorpions) on guitar and Rex Brown (Pantera) on bass. The generational leap continues with “Love Child”, featuring Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) and David Ellefson (ex-Megadeth). Unexpected, and that’s exactly the point.
Tobias Forge Leads the Way on “Save Us”
The frontman of Ghost, Tobias Forge, delivers one of the most anticipated takes on “Save Us” (I’m A Rebel, 1980), with Ray Luzier (Korn) on drums. This stylistic meeting will give purists plenty to chew on: between Cardinal Copia’s theatricality and the raw grit of Accept’s proto-heavy sound, the chemistry promises to be fascinating.
Other high-profile guests include:
- K.K. Downing (ex-Judas Priest), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian), Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth (Overkill)
- Chuck Billy and Gary Holt (Testament / Exodus), Todd La Torre (Queensrÿche), Chris Jericho (Fozzy)
- Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear), Ola Englund (The Haunted), Jeff Loomis (ex-Nevermore)
To appreciate the project’s subtleties, revisit the original versions before listening to the new takes. Compare Hoffmann’s distinctly NWOBHM-style palm muting on “Fast As A Shark” with what Kirk Hammett does with it: phrasing, amp tone, attack… a free production masterclass for any guitarist.
A Chronological Tracklist, Like a Journey Through the Discography
The album runs through 19 tracks in chronological release order, from “I’m A Rebel” to “Eat The Heat.” On the menu are absolute classics: “Metal Heart,” “Breaker,” “Restless And Wild,” “London Leatherboys,” “T.V. War,” and “Demon’s Night.” The track “Hellhammer” receives special treatment: re-recorded by Accept’s current lineup (Hoffmann, Motnik, Shouse, Williams) with Jason McMaster (Watchtower) on vocals.
On the production side, Zeuss (Chris Harris) is at the controls. A logical choice: he has shaped the modern sound of countless records by Hatebreed, Rob Zombie, and Queensrÿche.
A Celebration, and a Tour Too
Good news for French fans: Accept will play Paris (L’Olympia), Lyon (Transbordeur), and Toulouse in November 2026, following a stop at Hellfest Open Air in Clisson on June 19.
Why This Album Marks a Turning Point
Beyond the all-star cast, what stands out is the project’s generational reach. Accept has influenced an entire lineage: NWOBHM, speed metal, German power metal, and American thrash. Seeing Hammett, Halford, Anselmo, and Forge united under the same banner is recognition that does justice to five decades of the band’s impact. Not just another record in the stack, but a true manifesto.
We’ll have to judge it on September 4. At this point, we’re already debating which version will hit the hardest. Our bet? “Fast As A Shark” with Anselmo in full butcher mode.
