This play-along style method is designed to let you hear concretely how a great improviser constructs a musical discourse from scales. David Liebman (soprano saxophone) improvises over two versions of each scale listed in the Scale Syllabus: first a slow and simple interpretation, ideal for identifying target notes, intonation, and phrasing, then a second, more complex and fast version to explore flow, tension-release, and motif sequences. Thanks to stereo separation, you can isolate one of the musicians to work progressively: play along with the soloist, practice call and response, or improvise alone with Jamey Aebersold's piano. A list of piano voicings is also provided to help you accompany more effectively and better connect scales and harmonies.
