The Soprano Format: The DNA of the Ukulele, Revisited with Careful Luthiery
The soprano is the historical format of the ukulele: compact, lightweight, and naturally bright. The Au70Ws Art. Uke follows this tradition while standing out through a more ambitious choice of woods than many entry-level models. The Sitka Spruce A+ top brings precision and dynamics, while the black walnut enhances harmonic richness and presence, resulting in an expressive and lively soprano.
Who Is This Ukulele For?
Thanks to its easy-to-carry size and short scale length, this model is well suited for beginners looking for a motivating and in-tune instrument, as well as intermediate players seeking a responsive soprano for accompaniment. It performs well in songwriting, pop, folk, and Hawaiian-colored repertoires, offering immediate playability for strumming and good definition for arpeggios.
Sound Characteristics
The Sitka Spruce A+ top delivers a clear and articulated signature: attacks stand out well, projection is direct, and the instrument easily responds to right-hand dynamics. The black walnut back and sides complement this character with singing mids and controlled brightness, helping the soprano remain clear in chordal playing. The mahogany neck contributes to a warmer and more balanced feel, while the bone nut improves vibration transmission for cleaner note sustain. Finally, the Aquila Nylgut strings provide comfortable tension, a lively attack, and appreciated tuning stability for everyday use.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
For transport and protection, opt for a 21" / 533 mm soprano-sized gig bag or case. A clip-on tuner is perfect for standard GCEA tuning, and a set of Aquila Nylgut strings for soprano ukulele is a reliable choice to maintain the original feel and tonal balance.
